TrokaCut and TrokaBone are designed for biopsy of the Iliac Crest. They differ in their handle design and tip style offerings:
1. Handle.
TrokaCut has a clear polymer bayonet-style handle while TrokaBone boasts a blue, luer (locking) handle.
2. Tip Styles.
TrokaCut is offered with a bevelled concave tip (A) while TrokaBone is offered with both bevelled concave tip and pointed trocar tip (B).
An optional inner cannula with integrated biopsy chamber is offered (C). The inner cannula can be extracted (with sample) while leaving the outer cannula in place.
The outer cannula (with stylet intact, see A,B) is advanced into the bone wall using a clockwise & counterclockwise twisting motion while applying firm and constant pressure. Upon penetration of bone wall, resistance is felt, at which point the stylet is removed. The outer cannula with its very sharp, trephine tip continues easily to penetrate the inside of the bone under rotation. Sample is obtained by twisting/pushing motion to force sample into the cannula, and/or by optionally using a separate Inner cannula with integrated Biopsy Chamber. (C)
(Below:) Sample collection is performed by the conventional technique of twisting/pushing the cannula to force speciment into the cannula shaft. This sample needs then to be extracted from the cannula shaft. A solid stylet wire is provided for pushing the specimen through the outer cannula to its exit at the handle side. The Introductory aid shown below is designed to prevent injury to the user by preventing contact with the outer cannula's sharp trephine tip while offering a guide to placing the solid sylet wire within the outer cannula's distal opening.
(Below:) As an alternate method to harvesting sample (or supplementary to the conventional technique described above), TrokaCut and TrokaBone are offered both optionally with a separate Inner Cannula with Integrated Biopsy Chamber. The outer cannula is advanced to its desired position where then the inner cannula is placed inside and advanced to protrude beyond the outer cannula's tip where sample may be worked into the Integrated Biopsy chamber. The inner cannula is then withdrawn from the outer cannula with sample intact in its chamber.
